Veni, Vedi, I bought souvenirs.

They say, traveling opens up one's horizons..

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page." -St.Augustine

When you see the world, or anywhere other than "home" for that matter, you gain insight and look at the bigger picture in things as opposed to focusing too much on the micro, and local issues..

Your perspective upgrades to a "Macro" level; especially when you venture to places so far from home base..

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of earth all one's lifetime." -Mark Twain

In context, you see different people, different ideas, different walks of life, and most importantly different places; and then you realize that what you are living/seeing/used to only a facet  of this diamond which we call Earth, and that in reality there is so much left to be seen..

"No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow." -Lin Yutang.

But, I'm still on holiday as far as my blog is concerned..

PS. Can't wait till you touch down, I'm beaming.

NB. Title is a pun on Ceaser's famous quote, "Veni, Vedi, Vici"  (**I Came, I Saw, I Conquered)

ReUse 2.0 (Kuwait)

Had a chance to catch the "Reuse 2.0" exhibition on its final day and I must say I'm impressed, actually beyond impressed; I was blown away.

Bayt Lothan -where it was constructed- was transformed into an urban garden/backyard "littered" with re-cycled products and things that would be classified as trash/landfill materials but ironically were made into "masterpieces.."

Chairs made out of Pepsi Bottle Holders, tables made of old signs, egg cartons exquisitely turned into modern light appliances, and best of all a whole background/wall made of pepsi bottles, tide cartons and coloured bottles stacked over each other (which were set as a background for a cute alternative living room in the middle of the exhibit).

Wandering around the exhibit and seeing all those beautiful things made out of junk made me wonder how much potential landfills/trash bins, and junk yards had..

Egg-Holder Lighting

A kind of canopy-chair made out of recycled wood, i think..

A table made of a "Ladies Toilet" sign

A stool-ish pillow made out of an old Coca-Cola Ad

The mini sitting area with the mixed bottles and cans background..

A magazine holder/basket made out of magazines..

An art piece made out of cans..

The Exhibit's sign made out of flattened Tin Cans..

Best of all everything was for sale and miraculously coming from such a consumer society, you'd think this idea wouldn't fly; but people had no problem buying out all the products, for nothing was left and everything had sold out..

If I hadn't driven there myself, I could have sworn I was in another country; I never thought I'd see such an amazing exhibit in Kuwait.

Someone else's junk is another man's treasure; who thought such beautiful and creative things could be made out of other people's refuse..

Hats off to everyone who was involved, organized or sponsored this exhibit,

Xx
